Cape Cod

Cape Cod is not just beaches. It offers biking, both paved paths and off road, and a lot of kayaking as well. We have a hard time fitting in the beach when we go to the Cape.

Maybe the most popular of the paved bike paths is the Cape Cod Rail Trail. What was 25 miles when we visited it last continues to grow in both length and popularity. You can make a full day of that path alone or you can spend just an hour or so on part of it. Access and parking are available all along the length of the trail.

The Cape is wonderful for kayaking as well, with an large variety in distance and difficulty. The protected waters of Washburn Island is one we have done many variations of. Other areas like Monomoy Island are for more experienced paddlers due to the conditions as well as the scary tour boats flying to the islands.

Off road biking is challenging with the sandy earth and the constant hills. Some places have wooded areas along with the sand dune style biking, like the Barnstable Conservation Land. With all these possibilities, a week can be spent without even making it to the beach.
