Getting There
We started from Garristown to get to Fournocks. Basically you could come from so many directions, but since this way was reccommended form another site, we decided to follow their lead. Coming from Garristown did make it easier for us and also took us through some beautiful countryside.

Once you get to Fournocks, you must backtrack slightly to get the key to the site. The key is at the White's residence, so we waited for a respectful hour before we knocked on their door. A deposit is required, as is your respect for the history and conservation of the site.
We wondered what would happen if there were already people using the key, but it seems as though this is not often visited. We really appreciated the quiet in visiting this site because of that and hope if you also visit, you will enjoy that, too.
Our page is just a small glimpse at the surface of Fournocks. For more information, please visit Knowth.com
Inside the Tomb

When you walk in to the tomb and turn to face the entranceway, there are carved stones on either side above the head. hey are horizontally placed. The on to your right has beautifully carved circles that connect to each other, though are different than the famous ones at Newgrange. Looking to the left above your head is a stone with zigzags, similar to the pattern on Charlie Brown's shirt, but with many layers.
Facing the circle carved stone and turning to the right, there is a standing stone carved with a human face. We were expecting something other than what we saw. I am not sure why since the interpretive sign has a picture of the face. We included both photos of the face and a photo of the interpretive sign to demonstrate the feature.
Below is a collection of photos that are put together to get an idea of the entire inside walls of Fournocks. It starts at the left side of the entrance way, circles the tomb, and ends at the right side of the entrance way. It is not going to fit most browser screens, so you may have to scroll right to see the rest of the photo. It was the best way we could fit it on the page and still show some detail.

Rock Art on Left when Entering
The location of these stones are noted on the map above. One was at one of the alcoves and another in the entry way.

Rock Art on Right when Entering
The location of these stones are noted on the map above. Like the images above, one was at one of the alcoves and another in the entry way.

The Face
A sign talked about a face in the wall. We never saw it when we were there even though we looked. We went through the photos when we got home and it was obvious in the photos. We may have been looking for something smaller or maybe the lighting was not great until the flash went off. I took a photo of every part of the tomb in the hopes that we would capture it. Fortunately, that plan worked.
