In the Footsteps of Moses

Mosaic floor at church at site Cross on the church View of the Holy Land

About 10 or 15 minutes from St. George is the presumed burial site of Moses. It overlooks the valleys below, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem. The structure also has has beautiful mosaics inside. There is descriptions of why this is believed to be the site that mOses died and was buried which was very interesting to us. A tree is planted in loving memory of Pope John Paul II amongst the small gardens around the structure. This popular Pope performed a sermon at this site in 2001 for over 20,000 visitors.

We stayed at the Mövenpick at the Dead Sea after visiting this site. During the same day we also visited Greek Orthodox Church of St. George to see the mosaic maps, visited the baptism site at the Jordan River, and swam in the Dead Sea.
